SRINAGAR, Jan 8: In a commendable effort against drug trafficking, the Srinagar Police successfully thwarted a significant narcotics operation, apprehending two drug traffickers and seizing 8 kilograms of heroin. A police unit from Police Post Qamarwari, conducting a routine checkpoint at Barthana Crossing, stopped a vehicle (Tata Sumo, registration No. JK05D-1837) occupied by two suspects. A comprehensive search of the vehicle unearthed 6 kilograms of heroin stashed under the driver’s seat. Additionally, during a personal check, officers found 2 kilograms of the substance on the suspects, with each concealing 1 kilogram in polythene bags. The individuals arrested are identified as:
- Anas Ajaz Awan, son of Ajaz Ahmad Awan, a resident of Dildar Tangdar, Kupwara
- Zahid Ahmad Sheikh, son of Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Channipora, Tangdar, Kupwara
The drugs and the vehicle involved have been confiscated as evidence. A case has been registered under FIR No. 03/2025 in Police Station Parimpora, with ongoing investigations. Initial reports suggest that the seized narcotics were smuggled from Pakistan as part of an extensive cross-border drug trafficking network. The J&K Police are diligently pursuing all connections in order to dismantle this syndicate and identify every individual involved in this illicit industry.
