KOLKATA, Feb 19: Union minister Jitin Prasada stated on Wednesday that the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), established with the aim of promoting IT and ITeS exports, will facilitate the country in adapting to the rapidly changing global technology landscape.
While inaugurating an STPI incubation facility in Salt Lake Electronics Complex, Kolkata, Prasada mentioned that the government intends to support start-ups through affordable space, mentorship, and financial assistance.
“This new STPI incubation centre reflects the government’s dedication to establishing India as a leading tech hub in the world,” the Union minister of state for commerce, industry, electronics, and information technology noted.
This newly established STPI incubation facility will join the existing 67 centres across the nation. With this addition, West Bengal will have a total of five such facilities, joining the others located in Kharagpur, Siliguri, Haldia, and Durgapur.
The Salt Lake facility spans two lakh square feet on three acres of land provided by the West Bengal government and will feature plug-and-play facilities, an auditorium, and conference rooms, among other resources.
Prasada expressed the hope of establishing more STPIs nationwide.
To date, total IT and ITeS exports from STPIs have reached Rs 9.43 lakh crore.
Moreover, Prasada indicated that India is preparing to emerge as a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) leveraging large language models.
Supported by Aadhaar, mobile technologies, and internet connectivity, the country has an abundance of data.
He also announced that Rs 10,000 crore has been earmarked under the IndiaAI scheme, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally overseeing its progress.
Additionally, the STPIs will facilitate collaboration between academic institutions and businesses, he added.
