Jammu, Jan 20: Former Minister and ex-MLA of Marh, Sukhnandan Choudhary, met with the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir and presented a memorandum advocating for the creation of a Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) College in Jammu.
In his memorandum, Sukhnandan underscored the increasing demand for a B.P.Ed. institution in the area, highlighting the significance of physical education given the Government of India’s Fit India Movement. He pointed out that the absence of such a college in Jammu compels aspiring students to seek admissions in other states, leading to financial burdens and inconvenience.
He also noted that while a College of Physical Education was established in Srinagar back in 1976, Jammu still lacks this crucial facility.
Sukhnandan further suggested that existing government infrastructure, like the unoccupied Girls Hostel at Assarwan, Tehsil Bhalwal, could be repurposed for the B.P.Ed. College, thereby saving costs and optimizing the use of public resources.
Moreover, he drew attention to the underused sports stadium in Marh, which currently lacks permanent staff. He advocated for the assignment of trained personnel to oversee and enhance the stadium as a significant training ground for students and emerging athletes.
The Lieutenant Governor listened attentively to the proposals and assured Sukhnandan that the issues raised would be given thorough consideration. He recognized the essential role of promoting physical education and pledged that appropriate measures would be taken in the best interest of both students and the region.
In a statement to the media following the meeting, Sukhnandan expressed optimism that the government would respond swiftly to this request, which aligns with the goal of advancing health, fitness, and sports education in Jammu.
