Sunil Sharma, the Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, had a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address critical issues affecting the region.
During the discussion, Sharma drew attention to the concerning increase in drug abuse and narcotics trafficking in J&K, stressing the necessity for immediate action. He also advocated for significant infrastructure initiatives, especially in road connectivity and tourism, to enhance economic development and create job opportunities.
Sharma emphasized the need to strengthen and expand Village Defence Committees (VDCs) and Village Defence Guards (VDGs), highlighting their vital role in combating terrorism. He voiced apprehensions regarding recent terrorist incidents, including the violent attack on an ex-serviceman’s family in Kulgam, pressing the government to ensure complete rehabilitation and educational support for the victims’ families.
Amit Shah responded with assurances of full support and pledged to tackle the concerns raised. He also consented to meet all BJP MLAs from Jammu and Kashmir, which is anticipated to consolidate the party’s influence and address the lawmakers’ issues.
The conversation also included topics such as the forthcoming J&K Assembly budget session, ongoing political developments, and law and order matters. Sharma’s engagement with the Home Minister is viewed as a substantial move towards resolving the challenges confronting the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
