Srinagar, Feb 12: Today, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha convened a high-level meeting in Srinagar to assess the security situation in the Kashmir Division.
The DGP provided an update on the current security landscape in the valley and outlined strategies to address various security challenges, including counter-insurgency, law and order, protection of minorities, and terrorist recruitment at zonal, range, and district levels.
Additionally, the IGP Kashmir presented a comprehensive overview of the challenges and successes within the Kashmir Zone, along with strategic insights for the future.
The Lieutenant Governor reviewed the performance of different divisions of the J&K Police, expressing satisfaction regarding crime-related performance metrics, particularly concerning UAPA and NDPS cases.
He urged senior police officials and heads of various units to collaborate closely and intensify efforts to eliminate terrorism and those who support it.
“Under the esteemed leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Jammu and Kashmir is entering a period of peace, progress, and prosperity. I have complete confidence in your courage, focused measures, and improved institutional frameworks to achieve a terror-free Jammu and Kashmir. Enhanced intelligence gathering, coordination, and precision in anti-terror operations are essential to tackle future security challenges,” the Lieutenant Governor stated.
He emphasized that a comprehensive approach to combating terrorism is crucial to boosting capabilities across all security challenges. Furthermore, he instructed police officials to strictly implement property attachment policies in cases involving terrorism and narco-terrorism.
The Lieutenant Governor called for a results-oriented strategy to identify and neutralize foreign terrorists operating in the Kashmir valley, stressing the need for systematic attention to the terror ecosystem supporting adversarial forces and terrorists.
“A zero-tolerance policy against terrorism must be adopted. I have empowered the J&K Police and Security Forces to eliminate the terror ecosystem operating in the shadows. Those who finance and support terrorism will face severe consequences,” he affirmed.
He also addressed the issues of disinformation and propaganda, instructing officials to take decisive action against those involved.
“We must act decisively against individuals exploiting cyber space for disruptive activities and disinformation campaigns. It is essential to counteract fundamentalist and extremist ideologies rigorously and to enforce the law accordingly,” the Lieutenant Governor remarked.
Additionally, he encouraged police officials to concentrate on core policing responsibilities, engage with the public to address grievances, and foster connections with local communities. He stressed the importance of building a strong, trust-based relationship between the police force and citizens.
“The public must feel secure. It is your duty to protect citizens and take firm action against terrorists and their accomplices,” the Lieutenant Governor stated.
The meeting was attended by key officials including DGP J&K Nalin Prabhat; ADGP Hqrs MK Sinha; ADGP CID Nitish Kumar; Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari; IGP Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi; IGP Crime Dr Sunil Gupta; IGP Security Sujit Kumar; IGP Railways Vivek Gupta, along with Range DIGs, SSPs, Commandants of AP/IR Battalions, and other senior J&K Police officers, both in person and virtually.
