NEW DELHI, Feb 24: The Supreme Court declined to consider a request for regulating Internet pricing in India on Monday.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar dismissed the petition filed by a person named Rajat, noting that consumers have various options for Internet services.
“It’s a free market. There are several options available. BSNL and MTNL also provide Internet services,” the bench remarked.
The petitioner claimed that Jio and Reliance dominate a significant portion of the market share.
The bench responded, “If you suspect cartelization, you should approach the Competition Commission of India.”
However, the Supreme Court clarified that the petitioner is free to pursue any appropriate legal remedy if he wishes. (PTI)
