SANAND, Jan 28: Tata Projects announced on Tuesday that the construction of the semiconductor assembly and test facility for US-based Micron Technology in Sanand, near Ahmedabad, is expected to conclude by December 2025.
According to Amit Agrawal, Project Director at Tata Projects, 60 percent of the work on India’s first semiconductor plant has been completed, with the remaining tasks scheduled to be finalized by the end of this year.
Situated on nearly 50 acres in the Sanand industrial area, construction commenced in July of the previous year. This assembly, testing, marking, and packaging (ATMP) facility is being built for Micron by Tata Projects.
“An ATMP facility serves as a backend fab where semiconductor testing, packaging, and marking are performed. This will be one of the largest backend semiconductor fab units globally. To date, 60 percent of Phase-1 work has been accomplished using a workforce of 3,500,” Agrawal stated during a press briefing.
“We intend to deliver this facility to Micron by December 2025 after completing the civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and engineering tasks as per Micron’s specifications. Micron will make the final decision to commence operations,” he added.
In June 2023, the Gujarat government formalized an agreement with Micron to establish a USD 2.75 billion semiconductor assembly and test facility in Sanand.
Upon becoming operational, the project is expected to create approximately 5,000 direct jobs and an additional 15,000 indirect jobs. (PTI)
