Doda, January 16: A new round of snowfall has been recorded in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, as announced by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Harvinder Singh on Thursday. The DC noted that this precipitation is confined to the higher elevations of Doda and is expected to provide much-needed relief to the region’s horticulture and agriculture sectors.
The Bhaderwah valley in Doda experienced fresh snowfall, along with the nearby area of Bhalessa, which is now covered in a beautiful blanket of white. Additionally, the Poonch district, part of the Jammu division, received its share of fresh snow.
“This marks the second round of snowfall, bringing joy to the general public, farmers, and orchard owners. This snowfall is particularly advantageous for the local crops as it offers vital moisture and shields them from extreme weather conditions. Snow is essential for maintaining crop health and productivity, especially in colder regions,” stated DC Singh from Doda.
However, he also warned about the common risks that accompany fresh snowfall, mentioning that it can lead to “the risk of accidents and disruptions.” He has urged all departments to remain alert and implement necessary measures to safeguard public safety.
The vehicles department has been especially cautioned to exercise extreme care, as the roads can become slippery and icy following snowfall, which increases the likelihood of accidents, he added.
Additionally, the DC highlighted that the plains of Doda have experienced rainfall, stating, “Residents are informing us that the plains of the district have received considerable rain, resulting in a notable drop in temperature.”
“As a consequence, the entire district is facing a wave of colder weather… The rainfall in Doda’s plains has led to a temperature drop, making conditions chillier,” the DC mentioned.
With snowfall competing healthily with that in the Kashmir valley, following the reopening of the Bhaderwah-Basholi-Pathankot National Highway, a significant influx of tourists has visited the Bhaderwah region of Jammu and Kashmir, specifically the Guldanda meadow, after it was hit by substantial snowfall earlier this January.
Situated at nearly 10,000 feet in altitude, Guldanda has gained popularity as a destination for visitors from across India. According to Aamir Rafique, Publicity Officer of the Bhaderwah Development Authority (BDA), more than 500,000 tourists explored various areas of Bhaderwah in the past year. (Agencies)
