Srinagar, December 1: On Sunday, the Jammu and Kashmir Police apprehended 10 notorious drug traffickers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act in the city of Srinagar.

A police statement reported, “In its ongoing effort against drug trafficking, the police in Srinagar have charged 10 infamous drug traffickers under PIT-NDPS.”
The identified drug traffickers include Rizwan Bashir Dhobi, son of Bashir Ahmad Dhobi, a resident of Sakidafar Safakadal (currently residing in Grid Colony Srinagar); Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, son of Noor Mohammad Bhat, living in Karnabal Takanwari Pora, Srinagar; Owais Hussain Mir, son of Sajad Hussain Mir, a resident of Tangbagh, Nawpora, Srinagar; Nadeem Hussain Bhat, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, also from Batwara, Srinagar; Sheikh Jibran Nisar, son of Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, residing in Batawara, Srinagar; Raqib Lateef Bhat alias Amir, son of Mohammad Lateef Bhat, living in Bhat Mohalla, Aloochibagh, Srinagar; Abdul Ahad Bhat, son of Mohammad Sultan Bhat, a resident of Banpora, Batamaloo, Srinagar; and Moin Khan alias Moin, son of Ghulam Hassan, who lives in Batmaloo.
The police across the union territory have been vigorously pursuing actions against drug smugglers and traffickers to mitigate the illicit trade that adversely affects the youth.
According to intelligence reports, the majority of drugs are smuggled into the union territory from areas across the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB). The revenue generated from this trade is allegedly utilized to fund and support terrorism. Furthermore, once young individuals become dependent on these substances, they can easily be manipulated by terrorists and handlers of terror-operating groups from across the border.
The police have also initiated the process of attaching properties belonging to drug traffickers and smugglers, as it is suspected that these assets are acquired through the profits of drug-related illicit activities.
