JAMMU, Dec 4: A prominent over-ground worker associated with a terror group was apprehended under the Public Safety Act in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, according to police reports.
The PSA is a regulatory statute that permits detention without charge or trial for a duration of up to two years in certain situations.
“To combat anti-national elements and to prevent terrorism-related operations in Doda, law enforcement has detained notable OGW Mohd Irfan from Kanhal Bajarni Tehsil Bhagwah under the PSA and has incarcerated him following a detention order issued by the district magistrate of Doda,” stated the police in a release.
They added that the individual is accused of engaging in illegal activities and is working to extend the terror network to reestablish militancy in the area at the request of his handlers operating from across the border.
“The accused operated in a clandestine manner, and his actions posed a significant threat to society and compromised the peace, tranquility, and security of the region.
“He had been warned multiple times and was bound to abstain from anti-national actions, but he did not alter his conduct and was considered a severe risk for aiding militants in their malicious intentions to revive militancy in the district,” the police remarked.
He has been incarcerated at Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu following the acquisition of a detention order from the district magistrate of Doda, as stated.
“This action aims to ensure the safety and security of the region and serves as a clear warning to all anti-national elements to either change their actions or face the full consequences of the law,” the statement concluded. (Agencies)
