According to an official statement, the raids were conducted under a warrant issued by the Honorable Court of Special Judge, designated under the NIA Act in Srinagar, pertaining to FIR No. 06/2023. This case involves serious charges under sections 153-A, 505, 121, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with sections 13 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act).
The investigation highlights a larger conspiracy linked to prohibited terrorist organizations operating within Jammu and Kashmir and across the Line of Control (LoC), allegedly supported by Pakistani agencies. These groups are reportedly collaborating with local Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and sympathizers to establish new terror modules, leveraging social media to radicalize and recruit youth for unlawful and terrorist activities.
The inquiry indicated that mobile phones and other digital devices were utilized within Central Jail, Srinagar, by undertrial terrorists, OGWs, and sympathizers of banned terrorist organizations to communicate with active terrorists. It is alleged that these individuals transmitted instructions from handlers situated across the border to facilitate terrorism in the Kashmir Valley.
During the operation, extensive searches were carried out across various blocks and barracks within the jail, leading to the recovery of incriminating items, including SIM cards, mobile phones, and additional digital devices relevant to the investigation.
The authorities are also investigating the security breach at the jail to ascertain how these communication devices were smuggled in. The focus is now on identifying collaborators and facilitators involved in this illicit activity.
This operation is part of a comprehensive effort to uncover critical evidence, mitigate illegal activities, and prevent the misuse of communication devices like mobile phones in high-security facilities like jails. The goal is to dismantle the terror ecosystem in the Union Territory and take legal action against terrorist associates and OGWs in accordance with the law.
