New Delhi, Jan 5: A persistent layer of fog blanketed various parts of Delhi for the third morning in a row, resulting in delays for 51 trains, as reported by officials on Sunday.
The Meteorological Department noted that visibility at Palam dropped to zero between 4 am and 7:30 am, following a nine-hour stretch of zero visibility on Saturday.
Visibility at Safdarjung also fell to 0.50 meters at 5:30 am.
By 7:30 am, visibility at both Palam and Safdarjung airports was reduced to zero due to very dense fog.
In addition, the air quality in the national capital was categorized as ‘very poor,’ with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 372 recorded at 9 am, based on data from the Central Pollution Control Board.
The AQI scale categorizes readings from 0 to 50 as ‘good’, 51 to 100 as ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 as ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 as ‘poor’, 301 to 400 as ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 as ‘severe’.
The minimum temperature registered at 9.4 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees above the normal level, while humidity was measured at 95 percent at 8:30 am.
The Meteorological Department is forecasting dense to very dense fog throughout the day, with maximum temperatures expected to reach around 18 degrees Celsius. (PTI)
