KARACHI, Dec 8: At least three members of the security forces have lost their lives in two separate terrorist incidents in Pakistan’s troubled Balochistan province, according to police reports on Sunday.
Two soldiers from the Frontier Corps were killed, and three others suffered injuries when militants launched an attack on a checkpost situated near a coal mine in the Duki district on Saturday, revealed Sardar Rind, a senior police official.
During the prolonged assault, the assailants utilized rockets, grenades, and heavy weaponry, police stated.
While security forces mounted a retaliatory response, leading to casualties among the attackers, the exact figures regarding their fatalities or injuries remain unverified.
In a separate incident, militants in the Jiwani town of Gwadar employed an improvised explosive device (IED) against a patrol of the Pakistan Coast Guards near a lighthouse in the Daran area, resulting in the death of one security personnel, according to reports from the police.
In addition, tensions escalated in Kalat town as unknown individuals set fire to a monument close to the historic Miri Fort. The structure, which represents Baloch culture, sustained extensive damage, with two statues being destroyed during the arson, according to officials.
The event has prompted widespread outrage among local residents, who voiced their discontent over the desecration of a cultural emblem. (PTI)
