Rewa (MP), Feb 16: In the last 24 hours, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of vehicles heading towards the Maha Kumbh in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa, which borders Prayagraj, prompting local authorities to maintain a state of readiness, as reported on Sunday.
Approximately 1,000 vehicles are heading towards Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh every hour at the Chakghat border, while nearly 800 vehicles are returning during the same timeframe, officials mentioned.
Prayagraj is situated about 45 km from the Chakghat border in Rewa district.
The initial parking area for the Maha Kumbh has been established merely six kilometres from the Chakghat border in Uttar Pradesh, with officials indicating that extensive arrangements are in place for attendees at the “holding areas” and assistance centres.
An increase in Prayagraj-bound vehicles on National Highway no. 30 has been observed over the past 24 hours, alongside a significant number of returnees from Prayagraj, as noted by Inspector General of Rewa range, Saket Prakash Pandey.
“Currently, we are not halting vehicles at the Bela, Gangev, and Chakghat holding points, but both the police and administration are on high alert,” Pandey stated.
According to Sub Divisional Officer of Police Udit Mishra, the situation is not comparable to a traffic jam; however, the volume of vehicles heading to the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj has surged since Saturday due to the weekend influx.
The administration has arranged for facilities in the “holding areas,” as well as upgraded the amenities at help centres, Mishra elaborated.
Comparable holding areas have also been established in Maihar, Katni, and Satna districts of MP, according to officials.
Traffic has escalated at the border as the fair area and Prayagraj city have been designated as “no-vehicle zones,” they added.
Earlier this month, significant traffic congestion was recorded along a 250-km stretch from Katni at the border between the two states due to vehicles headed for the Maha Kumbh fair.
The Maha Kumbh commenced on January 13 and is set to conclude on February 26. (Agencies)
