Rajasthan: In Jaipur, a catastrophic accident involving a gas tanker and several vehicles transformed a section of the Jaipur-Ajmer highway into a blazing scene early on Friday, resulting in seven fatalities and over 35 injuries. The incident ignited more than 30 vehicles, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the fire from nearly a kilometer away as ambulances and fire trucks rushed to the scene. A school van driver on their way to pick up students recounted the horrifying image of a man engulfed in flames.
According to officials from the Rajasthan health department, seven individuals lost their lives in the mishap, while more than 35 others suffered injuries. Police indicated that some individuals may have been trapped in their vehicles and unable to escape the fire. A complete assessment will be made after thoroughly inspecting all vehicles involved.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar promptly arrived at SMS Hospital, where the injured were taken. Sharma engaged with hospital administration and medical staff to ensure that adequate treatment was provided, and he later visited the crash site to speak with police personnel.
In a post shared in Hindi on X, the chief minister expressed, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the casualties from the gas tanker blaze on the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway. Upon receiving information about the incident, I visited SMS Hospital to direct the medical team to offer immediate care and support to the injured.”
