HASSAN (Karnataka), Dec 2: An IPS officer tragically lost his life in an accident while en route to his first posting in the Hassan district, as reported by police on Monday.
Harsh Bardhan, 26, was a member of the 2023 batch of IPS officers from the Karnataka cadre and originally from Madhya Pradesh.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening when a tyre of the police vehicle he was riding in reportedly burst near Kittane in Hassan taluk. This caused the driver to lose control, resulting in the vehicle colliding with a house and a tree off the roadside, according to police.
At the time, Bardhan was traveling to Hassan to report for duty as a probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police in Holenarasipur. Sadly, he suffered critical head injuries and succumbed while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Meanwhile, the driver, Manjegowda, sustained minor injuries, said a senior police officer.
Bardhan had recently completed a four-week training program at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru; his father serves as a sub-divisional magistrate.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his condolences to the officer’s family, stating, “I am saddened to learn about the death of probationary IPS officer Harsh Bardhan in a tragic accident near the Kittane border along the Hassan-Mysuru Highway. It is heartbreaking that such an event occurred while he was on his way to assume his duties as an IPS officer after years of hard work.” He added, “I pray for the peaceful repose of Harsh Bardhan’s soul and extend my condolences to his grieving family.” (AGENCIES)
