ANKARA, December 9: On Monday, two Turkish military helicopters collided mid-air, resulting in one crashing and claiming the lives of six military personnel aboard, according to official reports. The other helicopter managed to land without incident.
Five individuals were pronounced dead at the crash site, while a sixth succumbed to injuries at a hospital, as reported by the defense ministry.
The incident took place in Isparta, located in the southwestern region of Turkey, during routine training flights, as stated by local governor Abdullah Erin.
A brigadier general overseeing the military aviation school was among those who lost their lives, he added.
The cause of the collision between the two helicopters remains unclear, prompting Erin to announce that an investigation is underway.
The private news agency DHA reported that the UH-1 utility helicopter crashed into a field and was split in half, with the second helicopter landing approximately 400 meters away. (AP)
