JAMMU, Jan 11: On Saturday, a significant encroachment operation led to the demolition of a dozen illegally constructed houses and four plinths, successfully reclaiming 10 kanals of land owned by the Jammu Development Authority (JDA), according to a senior government official.
This effective operation was carried out by the JDA in close collaboration with the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Jammu district administration, and local police, focusing on the Sidhra, Majeen, and Rangoora areas, the official stated.
The operation targeted regions experiencing rampant new encroachments, such as Dingyali, Gulshan Nagar, and Asrarabad in the revenue villages of Majeen, Ragoora, and Sidhra. Despite various notices and warnings issued in these areas, the land mafia, along with contractors and laborers, continued their unlawful activities.
During the encroachment drive, 12 unauthorized houses and four plinths were demolished, reclaiming 10 kanals of JDA land on-site. The official emphasized that this action served as a strong warning to all encroachers and builders that impunity would not be tolerated.
The operation not only succeeded in eliminating illegal structures but also raised awareness among community members about the necessity of adhering to proper procedures when constructing on land with verified ownership, as all government or JDA land will be reclaimed, he stated.
Pankaj Sharma, Vice Chairman of the JDA, affirmed his department’s dedication to protecting public land from unauthorized encroachments and indicated that such initiatives will persist in the future.
“This operation sends a clear message to the public to verify land titles and follow the correct processes for any construction projects,” he advised, urging residents not to build on the JDA-acquired properties in Ragoora, Majeen, and Sidhra areas, as this land is earmarked for future township development for the greater public good.
