Jammu, Feb 27 : Two individuals were apprehended for allegedly stealing Rs 19.51 lakh from a bank in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, according to a police official on Thursday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Kishtwar) Javaid Iqbal Mir reported that Rs 14 lakh of the stolen funds was recovered following information provided by the arrested suspects.
On February 3, a complaint was filed by the branch manager of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in Dachhan, detailing a robbery of Rs 19,51,600 (Rs 19.51 lakh) by unknown assailants.
An FIR was lodged at the Dachhan police station and an investigation was promptly launched, Mir stated.
A special investigation team was formed that successfully solved the case and detained Mohd Yasin from Sounder and Bilal Ahmed from Lidhri, Dachhan, recovering Rs 14 lakh, he added.
The inquiry is ongoing to recover the remaining amount, he mentioned.
The suspects attempted to destroy evidence by burning their clothes, shoes, and a bag containing the cash, the officer reported.
