Ahmedabad, Feb 17: On Monday, two flights arrived at Ahmedabad airport from Amritsar carrying 33 residents of Gujarat who were deported from the US due to illegal residency, according to officials.
They are part of a larger group of 112 Indians aboard a US military aircraft that landed at Amritsar late on Sunday.
With the arrival of these 33 deportees, the total number of Gujarat residents sent back from the US has reached 74 since February 6.
“Upon their arrival at the Ahmedabad airport, the 33 immigrants, including children, were taken to their hometowns in Gujarat using police vehicles,” stated Airport Police Station inspector SG Khambhla.
Three of the immigrants—two from Mehsana and one from Gandhinagar district—arrived around noon, while the remaining 30 landed on a subsequent flight around 2 pm, Khambhla added.
Police vehicles were on standby at the airport to facilitate the transportation of the deportees to their homes.
On February 16, a flight carrying eight individuals from Gujarat, part of a group of 116 Indians deported for illegal immigration, also landed at Ahmedabad from Amritsar. They were promptly taken to their respective native locations in police vehicles.
Earlier, on February 6, another flight with 33 immigrants from Gujarat, among a total of 104 Indian deportees, arrived at Ahmedabad airport, after which they were taken to their home towns, predominantly in Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Patan, and Ahmedabad districts. (PTI)
