Amritsar, Feb 5: A U.S. military aircraft transporting 104 unauthorized Indian immigrants arrived at Shri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport in Amritsar on Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 5, 2025), according to sources.
The flight touched down at 1:55 p.m.
Among the deportees, 30 are from Punjab, 33 each from Haryana and Gujarat, while three from Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, and two from Chandigarh were also included, as reported by the sources.
Official confirmation regarding the total number of deportees is still pending.
Initially, there were claims that the U.S. military C-17 aircraft was carrying 205 illegal immigrants.
This marks the first group of unauthorized Indian immigrants being deported by the U.S. Government.
Following Donald Trump’s inauguration as U.S. President last month, law enforcement agencies have intensified their efforts against illegal immigration.
Many individuals from Punjab, who entered the U.S. through unofficial routes at considerable expense, now find themselves facing deportation. (Agencies)
