NEW DELHI, Dec 13: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the completion of the track work for the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link Project (USBRL) on Friday. In a statement on the social media platform X, he celebrated this achievement as a “historic milestone.” He noted, “The final track work on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail link is finished. The ballastless track work for Tunnel T-33, which stretches 3.2 km at the foothills of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, successfully wrapped up today at 2:00 AM.”
An exciting development for India’s railway system is anticipated in January 2025 with the introduction of the first direct train service connecting the national capital to Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. The upcoming Delhi-Srinagar sleeper train, part of the third iteration of the Vande Bharat series, is expected to significantly cut down the travel time for the 800-kilometre journey to under 13 hours.
