Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 6: On Thursday, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed that the three-language formula proposed in the New Education Policy (NEP) is beneficial for the entire country. Stemming from concerns surrounding the ongoing discussions, particularly in southern states about the three-language policy, he remarked that there may be miscommunication or even political agendas at play.
“The three-language policy in the national education policy is advantageous for the whole nation,” stated the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs during a press interaction in Thiruvananthapuram.
Rijiju was present in Thiruvananthapuram for a regional review meeting and training workshop concerning the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) in the Southern Region.
He emphasized unity among Indians by highlighting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, though a Hindi speaker, is of Gujarati origin, and similarly, other leaders from different regions have diverse mother tongues but work collaboratively for the nation’s greater good. “Let us not create divisions in our country based on language or religion,” he added.
“We are all Indians; let us collaborate. Prime Minister Modi has consistently affirmed that every community and individual in India is equal, deserving the same protection and treatment. We should not fragment our country on the basis of caste, creed, or region.” His comments were made in light of the considerable opposition from the Tamil Nadu government to NEP 2020, which raised alarms over the imposed “three-language formula” and accused the central government of promoting Hindi aggressively.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin reiterated his refusal to implement the NEP, stating that even an offer of Rs 10,000 crore in funding would not change his stance. In contrast, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has publicly supported the Centre, advocating for the learning of multiple languages, as reported by media outlets. (PTI)
