BARAMULLA, Jan 28: Union Minister of State (MoS) for the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Labour and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, chaired a meeting today in Baramulla to review the progress on various indicators of NITI Aayog’s Aspirational District Programme (ADP).
The meeting included participation from Member Legislative Assembly Baramulla, Javed Hassan Beigh; Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa; along with officials from the Ministry of MSME, Labour and Employment and other relevant departments. She was informed that the district has made significant advancements in its Delta Ranking, as reported by NITI Aayog, moving up from the 108th position to the 46th out of 112 districts, achieving a composite score of 59.3 as of September 2024.
Furthermore, the Minister learned that the education sector in Baramulla has experienced substantial improvements, seen through an increase in student enrollment, especially for girls, and a notable decrease in dropout rates. Efforts to enhance educational quality have been made through skill development for teachers, upgraded school facilities, and the promotion of digital learning through smart classrooms.
The Union Minister thoroughly reviewed various sectors in the district including Agriculture, Financial Inclusion, Skill Development, and Infrastructure. She expressed her satisfaction with the progress attained by the Baramulla administration.
During her address, the Union MoS instructed Health Department officials to conduct extensive research to determine the causes of infant and maternal mortality rates in the district. She called for targeted interventions to further reduce these rates and improve healthcare outcomes overall.
She also directed the administration to strategize the implementation of food processing units in the area utilizing various Government schemes. This initiative will ensure efficient use of locally sourced apples and mitigate wastage during transport, thereby boosting the local economy and benefiting farmers.
Shobha Karandlaje urged officials to expedite the execution of development projects, particularly those that support MSMEs, generate employment, and enhance livelihoods. She reiterated the Government of India’s dedication to comprehensive development in Aspirational Districts through data-influenced governance and targeted initiatives.
During the meeting, Shobha Karandlaje provided essential resources such as computers, smart boards, and other facilities to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and schools to improve their operational effectiveness for community betterment.
During her visit to Baramulla, she inaugurated a state-of-the-art polygreenhouse covering an area of 500 square meters at Chakloo, which was sanctioned to local farmer Dr. Mudasir Ali under the HADP scheme with a substantial subsidy of 95%.
Additionally, the Union Minister visited Government Medical College Baramulla, where she inaugurated the Endo-Urological Equipment at the Associated Hospital, part of the Aspirational District Programme. This new equipment will facilitate advanced urological procedures, thereby enhancing healthcare services available to patients in the area.
Lastly, the Union Minister inaugurated the newly established Medical Registration Department’s (MRD) Registration Centre at GMC Baramulla, designed to streamline the patient registration process.
