JAMMU, Jan 14: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday for his initiatives aimed at bridging the emotional gap between the people of J-K and those in Delhi, asserting that the BJP government treats both regions equally. Singh spoke during the ninth armed forces veterans’ day rally at the Tanda Artillery Brigade in the Akhnoor sector.
“In the past, Kashmir was treated differently by previous administrations, preventing our brothers and sisters in the region from connecting with Delhi as they should have. I do not wish to dwell on the past; rather, our government’s greatest accomplishment is working to bridge the ‘dil ki duri’ (the distance between hearts) between Kashmir and the rest of India,” he said.
“I commend Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for taking positive steps to narrow the gap that still exists,” the Defence Minister remarked.
He also criticized the remarks made by Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, Prime Minister of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), against India, insisting that Jammu and Kashmir is incomplete without PoK.
Additionally, he extended his greetings for Makar Sankranti and the New Year to the veterans, expressing that their presence in Akhnoor reflects that “we hold Akhnoor and Kashmir in the same regard as we do Delhi in our hearts.” (Agencies)
