Dear Sir,
Jammu and Kashmir boasts numerous historical forts that embody the region’s vibrant cultural heritage, military history, and strategic significance. The forts in Jammu exhibit a variety of architectural styles, from ancient constructions to more modern fortifications erected by different rulers throughout the ages. These forts are crucial for understanding the history of the former state, even in contemporary times.
One such notable fort is the impressive Bhimgarh Fort, located in the Reasi district, often referred to as Raesi Fort as well. This fort is intertwined with local folklore, particularly the tales of Bhima from the Mahabharata. While it is believed to have been built during the Dogra dynasty, it may have even older origins. Although the fort is currently in ruins, it remains an essential site of historical significance.
Over the years, the fort has suffered from natural degradation, with many parts falling into a state of disrepair, emphasizing the need for restoration and preservation efforts. Bhimgarh Fort could become a major tourist destination in the Reasi district if the government invests in providing basic amenities for visitors; otherwise, it may struggle to draw tourists. Revitalizing and safeguarding Bhimgarh Fort would not only showcase the region’s rich history but also enhance local education and foster pride in the heritage.
Sincerely,
Vivek Koul
