TEL AVIV, Feb 16: The Israeli Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that a shipment of MK-84 heavy aerial bombs, each weighing 2,000 pounds, recently approved by the Trump administration, has arrived in Israel by sea.
According to a statement from the ministry, “In a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD) Mission to the United States and the International Transportation Authority Unit of the Defense Procurement Directorate (DPD), a delivery of heavy aerial bombs authorized by the U.S. government was received and unloaded overnight (Saturday) in Israel.”
The cargo vessel, which transported the MK-84 munitions, docked at the Port of Ashdod, where the munitions were transferred to trucks and taken to Israeli air force bases, the statement further noted.
This bomb delivery is regarded as a “significant asset” for the Israeli air force and is indicative of the robust alliance between Israel and the United States, as stated by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz.
Since the escalation of armed conflicts in the Middle East began in October 2023, Israel has received over 76,000 tonnes of arms, military equipment, and assorted military cargo via sea and air, the statement reported.
Earlier in February, following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington, the Trump administration approved arms sales to Israel amounting to more than $7 billion, encompassing bombs, guided missiles, and related equipment.
