NEW DELHI, Feb 2: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasized on Sunday that the nation cannot tolerate millions of illegal migrants, arguing that electoral politics should not be disrupted by demographic changes. He urged the youth to counter anti-national narratives.
In his remarks, Dhankhar, who also serves as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, raised alarms about the frequent interruptions occurring in Parliament.
Speaking at the World Forum of Accountants (WOFA) conference in the capital, he highlighted the need for young people to be aware of significant existential challenges.
“Our country cannot sustain millions of illegal migrants. We must ensure that electoral politics is not affected by demographic upheavals. These issues will significantly impact you, as they are challenges you must collectively address,” he stated.
Without going into specifics, Dhankhar commented, “I am confident… kaha jaatha hai, samajdhar ko eshaara kafi hai (it’s said that a hint is enough for those who are wise).”
Expressing his concerns that certain individuals and organizations feel uneasy about the nation’s progress, he also mentioned a trend of sensationalizing narratives.
“In these narratives, we tend to forget our Indianness, nationalism, and national interests,” he pointed out.
In his appeal to the youth, he noted that they hold the power to “counter these anti-national narratives and to overcome forces that are adversarial to India.”
During the conference organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the Vice President stressed the importance of embracing an ethos of economic nationalism, asserting that such an approach would greatly benefit the economy.
He also encouraged Indian chartered accountants and their firms to carve out a space on the global stage, he added. (PTI)
