PATNA, Dec 13: Vinay Kumar, a senior IPS officer, has been appointed as the new Director General of Police for Bihar as of Friday. The 1991-batch IPS officer succeeds Alok Raj, who has been serving as the officiating DGP since August 30, 2024, and is set to retire in December 2025. A notification released by the state Home Department confirms that Vinay Kumar will lead the state police for a two-year tenure per a directive from the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, Alok Raj will transition to the role of DG-cum-CMD of the Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation. Additionally, another senior IPS officer, J S Gangwar, has been appointed as the new Director General of the state Vigilance Department, according to the notification. (PTI)
