SRINAGAR, Mar 4: Weather conditions improved on Tuesday following a fresh round of snowfall and widespread rain across the Kashmir Valley over the last 24 hours.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar, dry weather is expected to continue until March 9.
However, there is a chance of a new episode of rain and snowfall from March 10 to 12, the report indicated.
The MeT office shared data regarding precipitation in the past 24 hours, noting that the ski resort of Gulmarg recorded moderate snowfall of 30.0 cm, while the tourist destinations of Pahalgam, Kokernag, and Kupwara experienced light snowfall during this period.
In Srinagar and other lowland areas of the Kashmir Valley, intermittent and widespread rainfall was noted within the last day. Gulmarg reported the highest precipitation at 29.4 mm, followed by Pahalgam at 22.8 mm, Kupwara at 19.9 mm, Kokernag at 19.8 mm, and Srinagar at 12.9 mm.
This inclement weather has resulted in colder conditions across the region, with maximum temperatures falling by 3 to 9°C in various parts of the Kashmir Valley and by 4 to 9°C in the Jammu division on Monday.
The warmest temperature was recorded in the tourist spot of Kokernag in south Kashmir at 11.2°C, while Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, saw a maximum of 10.2°C the previous day.
During the night between Monday and Tuesday, minimum temperatures dipped below 1 to 3°C across Jammu and Kashmir.
Gulmarg remained the coldest location with a low of -5.5°C, which was 1.1°C lower than normal, whereas Srinagar recorded a low of 2.5°C, which is considered standard for this time of year.
The tourism spots of Pahalgam and Kokernag registered lows of -0.6°C, Kupwara at -0.4°C, and Qazigund at 0.4°C. In the Jammu division, Bhaderwah and Banihal registered lows of 1.6°C, as reported by the MeT office. (Agencies)
