NEW DELHI, Feb 3: Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, has highlighted the significant global impact of women-led startups in India. He noted that even in challenging sectors like space, women-led initiatives are gaining international recognition, mentioning that the head of India’s Solar mission “Aditya L1,” Nigar Shaji, has been dubbed ISRO’s “Sunny Lady.”
The Minister emphasized that women-led development is a key focus of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration, with the aim of positioning women-led startups on the global stage in the coming years. He expressed confidence in the potential of women entrepreneurs to achieve this vision.
Speaking to the FICCI-FLO delegation, which included YFLO Delhi President Dr. Payal Kanodia, Dr. Jitendra Singh explained that since 2014, women empowerment has taken on tangible significance, with various government initiatives such as PM MUDRA and PM Vishwakarma schemes greatly benefiting the female workforce. He noted that under Narendra Modi’s leadership, there has been a strong push for women entrepreneurship.
The Minister shared that the shift in women’s empowerment has allowed women to take on leadership roles across various sectors, breaking away from traditional participatory roles. He mentioned that approximately 70% of the beneficiaries of financial assistance through the PM Mudra Yojana are women, enabling them to create their own livelihoods and contribute to job creation for others. He urged the delegation to contribute toward realizing Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047, with the government committed to enhancing the capacity of the youth, including young women.
Dr. Jitendra Singh also spoke about the Modi Government’s revolutionary initiatives aimed at creating employment opportunities for the youth through various schemes, blending the best aspects of Indian tradition with modern practices to cater to the country’s diverse needs.
