MUMBAI: In an exciting development, flamboyant India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been included in the Mumbai squad for their upcoming Ranji Trophy semifinal against Vidarbha, bolstering the team’s strength ahead of the critical match in Jamtha, Nagpur.
Mumbai dominated Haryana by 152 runs in their quarterfinal clash in Kolkata on Tuesday.
The semifinals are set to kick off on February 17.
Jaiswal, who debuted in ODIs against England and scored 15 runs in Nagpur last week, was part of the Indian team in Ahmedabad for the third and final ODI but will join the Mumbai side in Nagpur on Friday.
Both Jaiswal and Shivam Dube are non-travelling substitutes for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy and are slated to travel to Dubai only if required.
Although Jaiswal was initially named in India’s preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy, he did not make it to the final team.
The 23-year-old had a single Ranji Trophy appearance this season, where he scored 4 and 26 in a surprising five-wicket loss to Jammu & Kashmir.
However, he showcased his talent in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, amassing 391 runs in five Tests at an average of 43.44, which included one century and two half-centuries.
The match-up between Mumbai and Vidarbha in the semifinals will be a rematch of last season’s Ranji final, where Mumbai triumphed to claim their 42nd title in this prestigious domestic tournament.
The team was selected by the senior selection committee of the Mumbai Cricket Association, composed of chairman Sanjay Patil, Ravi Thaker, Jeetendra Thackeray, Kiran Powar, and Vikrant Yeligeti.
Mumbai’s squad includes: Ajinkya Rahane (Captain), Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Amogh Bhatkal, Suryakumar Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Siddhesh Lad, Shivam Dube, Akash Anand (WK), Hardik Tamore (WK), Suryansh Shedge, Shardul Thakur, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Mohit Avasthi, Sylvester Dsouza, Royston Dias, Atharva Ankolekar, and Harsh Tanna.
