GULMARG, Feb 3: The Youth Services and Sports Department (YSS) of J&K is dedicated to promoting winter sports and has been organizing its Annual Skiing Courses in Gulmarg and Sonamarg. The vibrant closing ceremony of the second skiing course in Gulmarg was attended by YSS Director General, Rajinder Singh Tara, celebrating the participation of 50 girl skiers from across various districts of Jammu & Kashmir.
The Director General expressed his pleasure at the department’s ongoing initiatives, highlighting the valuable skiing experiences offered to government school students. “It’s truly inspiring to witness students, especially those from less exposed backgrounds, gain experience on the internationally recognized slopes of Gulmarg,” he remarked.
Looking toward the future, the DG announced plans to extend skiing training to Sonamarg and other renowned tourist spots such as Pahalgam and Yousmarg, aiming to promote winter sports while simultaneously enhancing local tourism and the economy.
The event also showcased lively cultural performances by the girl skiers, contributing to a festive atmosphere. The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Hilal Ahmed Shah, Incharge of Gulmarg Hutments, in recognition of the DG’s encouraging presence.
