NEW DELHI, Dec 22: Days after the tabla maestro Zakir Hussain was laid to rest at a cemetery in San Francisco, his family shared a heartfelt post on his official Instagram account last Sunday.
This marks Hussain’s first social media update since his passing due to complications related to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis at a San Francisco hospital last week. He was 73.
The post features a timeless black-and-white image showing the hands of Hussain, his wife Antonia Minnecola, and their daughters, Anisa and Isabella Qureshi, held closely together.
“Always together in love,” the caption reads, tagging all four family members.
Hussain, esteemed as one of the world’s finest percussionists, was buried at Fernwood Cemetery in San Francisco on Thursday.
A multitude of admirers attended his funeral to pay their respects, with musicians like Sivamani performing drums nearby as a tribute.
Over his illustrious six-decade career, Hussain, the son of tabla legend Ustad Alla Rakha, earned four Grammy Awards, including three at the 66th Grammy Awards this year.
He was honored with the Padma Shri in 1988, the Padma Bhushan in 2002, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2023. (PTI)
